2008 Christmas Tour Events

Friday December 5th, 5:00 - 9:00 pm - An Old-Fashioned Candlelight Christmas
Admission: Adults = $5; Children = $4; Children 4 and under = free.
Free Parking at Flea Market next to the Village. Hayride into the complex.
Village decorated for Christmas with lights and live greens, refreshments and entertainment by a blazing fire, docents in costume, live music, Happy Train rides, storytelling, craft demonstrations including lacemaking, tatting, and spinning, hands-on activities for children including corncob doll and dart making, "Dickens in the Chapel" (live theatre) "Walking to Bethlehem" cake walk, School House Lesson, "Guess-what-it-is-in the Tool Shed and "contra dancing" with live music. A delightful evening for all ages. Other entertainment and activities as detailed below:

CARRIAGE HOUSE
- 19th Century carriage lit up for Christmas! Carriage House was once located behind the Hayter home on North Street. See our buckboard wagon that hauled watermelons in the Alazan community. "Contra" (square) dancing activity.
HAPPY TRAIN RIDE
- Children are enchanted by this tiny train that takes them for a ride around the complex. Adults are welcome to squeeze themselves in this mini-train.
WATKINS RECEPTION HOUSE
- Suzuki Violinists
- Showstoppers Children's Choir
Warm up in this 1895 Victorian home and enjoy the entertainment with coffee, punch, and cookies by a blazing fire and a live cedar Christmas tree.
MILLARD-LEE BOARDING HOUSE
- 19th century living comes alive with a fascinating collection of antiques and kitchen gadgets. Give the antique player piano a try! Marvel at the tatting skills displayed upstairs in the wicker room. "Make and Take" activities for children - corn cob dolls, darts & rag balls upstairs in the children's room.
CHURCH
- LIVE THEATRE! Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol performed by Lamplite Theatre players. 3 performances.
TOOL SHED and LIVERY STABLE
- Learn about the skills of subsistence farming with this wonderful collection of antique tools. See the assortment of saddles, harnesses, harness-making bench, buggy, and hand-forged Model-T tools. Pet the mule or ride it!

SCHOOLHOUSE
- Be a 19th century child! Write with real quill pens! Learn rules for students and teachers.
BURROWS HOUSE
- Traditional 1870s East Texas farmhouse featuring an eclectic collection of antiques. Meet "Dolly," our life-sized doll from 1910. Observe lace-making, spinning, and weaving. Shop in the gift shop for old-timey toys, jewelry, and books.
CABOOSE
- Climb aboard our 1916 Nacogdoches & Southeastern caboose and see the wonderful collection of train memorabilia. The caboose was part of a train chartered to haul logs in Nacogdoches County.
OLD METHODIST PARSONAGE

Warm up with hot Wassail and baked goods while enjoying Christmas music played on an antique Broadwood piano.
COUNTRY STORE
- Old timey East Texas knee-slappin' music 'round the stove and the aroma of good food will greet you as you enter the store. Step back in time and order up some old fashioned candy, soft drinks, popcorn, or sausage on a stick and other good food.
WATKINS LOG HOUSE
- Fireside story telling for children by local professional Dove Watson in this cozy 1830s log house. Enjoy cocoa and baked goods, and see spinning and quilt making upstairs.
LOG OFFICE
- 19th century office used to conduct business.
LOG HOUSE YARD
- Be a Pioneer Child! Corn shelling, push plowing, and other hands-on activities.
GROUNDS
- Cake Walks / Brass Quintet (In the event of bad weather cake walks will be held in the Carriage House)
